Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin (1869 – 1916) was a Russian mystic, faith healer, and self-proclaimed holy man who rose from poverty in Siberia to the inner circle of the Russian Imperial family.
Born the son of peasants, Rasputin left his village to wander Russia as a pilgrim. His piercing eyes, intense charisma, and reputation for healing brought him to Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra, who believed he could save their hemophiliac son, Alexei.
Though never an ordained priest, Rasputin gained immense influence at the royal court — advising the Tsarina and shaping political decisions. To some, he was a saint and miracle-worker; to others, a corrupt manipulator and symbol of moral decay in the dying days of the empire.
His wild lifestyle, rumored affairs, and mystical aura turned him into a living legend — and a threat. In 1916, nobles conspired to kill him, claiming he was destroying Russia from within. Even his death became myth: poisoned, shot, beaten, and drowned — Rasputin’s defiance of death cemented his place in history as a symbol of unkillable will and dark charisma.
